Intent for French
At St George’s we aim to teach French as our choice of a Modern Foreign Language. We believe that studying a language will support our pupils to deepen their understanding of other cultures, the World around them and how people live and work in another Country.
We encourage our pupils to write and speak in French during their language lessons. The opportunity to use these skills in conversational French and real life situations is our practical aim. France, being our closest neighbour to Kent is an obvious choice and the school has taught French over time.
We study French formally from years 3 to 6 and use informal opportunities in the infants to experience French, such as taking the register and days of the week.
Pupils progress throughout their time here and our curriculum lays the foundations for them to become lifelong language learners.
