Collective Worship

Our Collective Worship policy supports and strengthens the Christian identity of St George’s School. It reaffirms our core values and celebrates the unique contribution each child makes to our school community.

Worship at St George’s reflects the rich traditions of the Church of England and follows the Christian liturgical year. The daily act of Christian worship is a central part of school life and is supported by all staff and the governing body.

I love being a worship warrior. I get to light the candle, get everyone to be ready for worship and lead with the teacher.”

Worship Policy

Church visits and celebrations.

As part of our Christian ethos, we regularly visit our local church, Minster Abbey, to celebrate key events in the Christian calendar, including Easter, Harvest, and Christmas.

We are fortunate to have the support of the Parochial Church Council (PCC), who help bring Bible stories to life during our visits. These special occasions are further enriched by our own celebrations, where pupils share songs and stories with parents and carers, marking these important events together as a school community.

Our worship warriors play a huge part in our daily lives.

Our Worship Warriors play a vital role in the daily spiritual life of our school.

Elected each year, these pupils help to plan and lead our acts of worship. They are responsible for setting up the worship space, lighting candles, choosing appropriate music, and creating a calm, reflective atmosphere.

Worship Warriors also take an active role during worship, often leading prayers, reading, or encouraging others to take part through drama or reflection. Their leadership helps make worship meaningful and inclusive for all.

We created a Spiritual Garden together, come on our journey and see what it looks like.

We use the Diocese plans to support our worship.

The staff and the worship warriors then help adapt these for our school. Here are some examples.

Our worship spaces around the school and in our classrooms enable us to think, ask questions and reflect.
