Therapy Dogs and Reading
Bowyer and George the therapy dogs.
Just after Christmas I backtracked on a decision I made several years ago, that decision was “I would retire when Bowyer could no longer be a Reading dog and he would be our last Therapy dog.”
After a discussion with the lady that breeds our dogs and staff at St George’s to see if a Therapy dog would still be wanted after my original decision we decided add a new puppy to our home.
Bowyer had also become very lonely at home alone after spending his years growing up surrounded by dogs so it has also helped him as he was struggling to adapt to being an only dog.
Hopefully George as he is known will go on to qualify as a Therapy dog and become a familiar face around the school, although he is doing well at only 11 weeks old we are currently desensitising him to every day noise and hustle and bustle as well as very basic obedience.
To the children, parents and of course the staff at St George’s school thank you giving our dogs the opportunity to show what this breed can do in a positive , I seen personally the difference they can make and I’ve seen many a frown turned upside down since 2011 when we started this journey and every child, parent and staff member has played their part in what I believe to be a successful role of the German Shepherd working in your school.
Say hello to George (11 weeks)
