Forest School

An Explanation for Parents about St George’s Forest School

Quality

Our Forest School has been visited by our School Improvement Partner, who was impressed by the children’s achievements, saying our Forest School “presents as a productive use of time in developing the whole child.

We have won the Best Forest School in Swale KM Green Award 2019!

Aim

Besides being taught academic subjects at school oun children are given opportunities to develop in many other ways. One of these is through outside experiences at St George’s Fonest School. The aim is to promote the holistic development of all those involved: fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.

Setting

Forest School is based in and around the Woodland Walk at the side of the top field. We have started to extend the wooded area with some children planting saplings.

Experience

All the learning will be child-led with the children being given the opportunity to experience exciting activities such as building shelters with tarpaulins. Eventually, once the children one noody, building tires and working with wood will be the norm. Of course, these experiences will be under close supervision, although the children will need to take responsibility for their own actions by assessing risk for themselves.
