Our School Council

How Do I Get Elected to the School Council?
School Council elections take place every autumn term. To give as many pupils as possible the chance to take part, children who served on the Council the previous year are asked not to stand again.
From Year 2 onwards, any child who is interested in joining the School Council is welcome to put themselves forward. Candidates prepare a short speech to persuade their classmates to vote for them. You may also want to create a campaign poster or make some notes to support your speech. Share all the reasons you would make a great representative — perhaps you have lots of ideas, are a good listener, enjoy organising events, or simply want to help make St George’s the best it can be.
After the speeches, every pupil in the class votes. This process is a wonderful example of democracy in action, giving everyone an equal voice in choosing their class representative.

When Does the School Council Meet?
The School Council meets regularly throughout the school year. The display board in the corridor shows upcoming meeting dates, and you can also find agendas and minutes posted there.
As well as our council meetings, we also meet throughout the year to help support other groups within our school. We also also carry out termly litter picks to help look after our school environment this is not just for us but the animal =s and environment too. This is important and helps support our ECO club too.
What If I’m Not a School Council Member? How Are My Views Heard
Every pupil’s voice matters. If you have an idea or something you’d like to share, speak to your class’s School Council representative. They will bring your thoughts and suggestions to the next meeting.
